Bran­den­bur­gi­sche Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Cott­bus-Senf­ten­berg - Fac­ulty of Mech­an­ical Engin­eer­ing, Elec­tri­cal and Energy Sys­tems

The Bran­den­burg Uni­ver­sity of Tech­no­logy (BTU) Cott­bus-Sen­ften­berg is a young uni­ver­sity that is act­ively help­ing to shape the struc­tural change in Lusa­tia to phase out lig­nite and is pro­vid­ing sci­ent­i­fic sup­port for trans­form­a­tion pro­ces­ses in many ways. In the com­ing dec­ades, the region will be one of the most excit­ing real labor­at­or­ies in Ger­many, from which ground­break­ing devel­op­ment impul­ses are to eman­ate. Employ­ment at the BTU there­fore prom­ises more than ever par­ti­cip­a­tion in devel­op­ment pro­ces­ses towards a sus­tain­able and cli­mate-fri­endly future.

PRO­FESS­OR­SHIP Join­ing and Weld­ing Tech­no­logy (W3)

com­men­cing at the earli­est oppor­tun­ity.

Working field:

The pos­i­tion is in suc­ces­sion to the pro­fess­or­ship of Join­ing and Weld­ing Tech­no­logy from Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Ves­selin Mic­hai­lov and in the assump­tion of lead­er­ship of the depart­ment of the same name. Act­ive par­ti­cip­a­tion of the appoin­ted head of the depart­ment in cur­rent and future pro­jects on struc­tural and energy change as well as close coo­per­a­tion with the par­ti­cip­at­ing part­ners from rese­arch insti­tu­tions and indus­try is expec­ted. The will­ing­ness for inter­dis­cip­lin­ary coo­per­a­tion at the natio­nal and inter­na­tio­nal levels as well as with the insti­tutes and fac­ulties of the BTU is requi­red.

In addi­tion, the devel­op­ment and app­lic­a­tion of advan­ced sim­u­la­tion meth­ods and arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence (AI) for the digit­al­iz­a­tion of the value chain are desir­able.

Suc­cess­ful acquis­i­tion of natio­nal and/or European third-party fund­ing is expec­ted. Net­works in indus­try, aca­demia and pro­fes­sio­nal asso­ci­ati­ons are use­ful.

In teach­ing, par­ti­cip­a­tion in the study cour­ses in mech­an­ical engin­eer­ing and indus­trial engin­eer­ing as well as par­ti­cip­a­tion in the devel­op­ment of the Ger­man and inter­na­tio­nal study pro­grams, in par­tic­u­lar the new study pro­gram "Light­weight and Mater­ial Tech­no­logy" is expec­ted. Cour­ses are also to be held in Eng­lish.

Other duties res­ult from the require­ments set by § 42 Bran­den­bur­gisches Hoch­schul­ge­setz (Hig­her Edu­ca­tion Act of the State of Bran­den­burg - BbgHG) in con­junc­tion with § 3 BbgHG.


We are look­ing for a per­son with excel­lent sci­ent­i­fic qual­i­fic­a­tions and man­age­ment exper­i­ence who rep­res­ents the field of join­ing and weld­ing tech­no­logy in rese­arch and teach­ing. The future hol­der of the pos­i­tion is expec­ted to fur­ther deepen the rese­arch with regard to the join­ing pro­cess chain start­ing from the require­ments for the com­pon­ent, the base mater­ial, via tailor-made fil­ler mater­i­als and join­ing pro­ces­ses through the char­ac­ter­iz­a­tion of join­ing nodes and com­pon­ents, among oth­ers for future-ori­ented energy and mobil­ity tech­no­lo­gies.

She/he is expec­ted to ful­fil at least two of the fol­low­ing require­ments:
  • In-depth know­ledge in the devel­op­ment and optim­iz­a­tion of join­ing and weld­ing pro­ces­ses, among oth­ers on the basis of arc and laser-based pro­ces­ses,
  • Com­pet­ences in the field of shape giv­ing join­ing,
  • Know­ledge in the devel­op­ment and app­lic­a­tion of pow­der and wire weld­ing con­sum­ables,
  • Exper­i­ence in the test­ing and design of joints and joi­ned parts,
  • Com­pet­ences in mod­el­ling and cal­cu­la­tion meth­ods for the sim­u­la­tion of join­ing and weld­ing pro­ces­ses and for the optim­isa­tion of joi­ned parts as well as in the app­lic­a­tion of AI meth­ods.

App­lic­ants must pro­vide evid­ence of pre­vi­ous achieve­ments in fun­da­men­tal rese­arch, e. g. by sub­mit­ting app­lic­a­tions for pub­lic fun­ded pro­jects (DFG, BMBF, EU...) and pub­lic­a­tions in peer-reviewed journ­als. The rese­arch top­ics in fun­da­men­tal rese­arch should be rel­ev­ant to the DFG or com­par­able inter­na­tio­nal rese­arch fund­ing insti­tu­tions. In addi­tion, exper­i­ence in app­lic­a­tion-ori­ented rese­arch with indus­trial com­pan­ies must be pre­sen­ted, e.g. by pro­jects (AIF, ZIM...), joint pub­lic­a­tions, and pat­ents.
